Ooh! Ooh! I made THAT!

Happy New Year! I took some time off from blogging in order to celebrate the New Year, and it was much needed. I was thinking about the last year, some of the people I met, opportunities I had, and places I went and I remembered one of the many things that I never shared with you!

I believe it was late spring of last year that one of my friends, Becket Cook (who is an amazing set designer)  approached me with a really unique project, that was a bit rushed. He needed me to make a net umbrella, much like one from a vintage photo he found, out of a neon color for a pop star by the name of...Katy Perry.

I honestly didn't know who she was until I googled her name...I figured she must be somebody if her photographer was trapped in Europe so the shoot had to be pushed back a week, giving me more time to create. Once I googled her I thought "Oh that Katy Perry.....shoot...I'm a little nervous.".

Pretty soon I saw the image that was sent to my email popping up all over itunes and the web...sometimes I'm tempted to point and say "ooh! ooh! I made that!".

This moment stands out to me because not only was it one of my first paid sewing jobs, but it was challenging to step outside the comfort of women's clothing and make something that's....not clothing at all.

The Cheapest Purse I've bought...

Last week as i was sewing a project, an idea popped into my mind. 

With just a half hour before my local thrift store closed, i jumped up, grabbed my purse and started on a mission.

My goal: to find a leather skirt.

Bingo:

If you're reading this then hopefully you know me well enough to think "What would Chloé want with that aweful leather skirt?"

Of course it's not going to look like a skirt for much longer, about 3 hours later of wrestling with my mom's machine through the thick layers of leather, we have a finished product.

Which I am quite proud of:

The Bag is made completely from reconstructed leather items, with my brother's old belt as the strap (thanks for the sacrifice!).

I've always wanted a Chloé purse, who'd think i'd only pay $3.75? ;)

A little birdie told me...

my mom's birthday is coming up, and usually i take her out for  pedicure or breakfast, but this year since funds are a bit low i thought i'd try something new...

I've never really painted a picture before so i grabbed an old leather bound book and used the cover for my canvas, i tried my hand at painting and here's the finished product:

Three White Tees

Here's what i did this week with a pack of men's x-large white v-necks tees...

I guess this is the before picture..and i still haven't done anything with this shirt...i'll have to wait for the creative streak to hit again.

I took v-neck #2 and attempted to dye it a dark grey, unfortunately as i've never used clothing dye before it came out blotchy and more of an olive green...

I was determined though to complete the idea in my head, so i just went with it and proceeded to create a tunic dress...

One thing led to another and this is what i ended up with.

I thought the blotches actually looked kinda cool so i took a chance and wore it to work, where i had about three people prove me wrong by telling my i had spilled ink on my dress.

Oh well after all that work i think i'll still wear it...

This was my original idea for the pack of shirts...a V-neck dress (much like the ones at American Apparel). I made it today and i am actually surprised at how well it fits me...

It is a little bit short, but that's nothing leggings can't fix.

It only took about 30 minutes to complete. And got the Sewing bug out of me.
